In 1988, Steve Schlegel joined Jim Muller as a small investor and they opened The Bicycle Store in north Oklahoma City. Then in 1994, Steve decided to start his own store. He took his investment in The Bicycle Store, and opened The Bicycle Store Too on the south side of the city. It was a relatively small store with only 2 full time and 2 part time employees, yet it continued to grow into the store it is today, with 9 full time and 7 part time employees.

In May 2007, a new location was opened and the name of the store changed to Schlegel Bicycles. The store, on Automobile Alley in Downtown Oklahoma City, became successful almost immediately. In the same year, the store was named one of the Top 100 Bicycle Retailers in the US out of a total of 5,200 stores nationwide.

Schlegel Bicycles has grown in inventory and services. New bike lines have been added, such as Cannondale in 1998, Cervelo and Electra in 2004 and Trek, Gary Fisher and Pinarello in 2007. Schlegel Bicycles is currently the only Cervelo dealer in Oklahoma, and Steve has been 1 of 10 dealers invited to their design conference for the past several years. A triathlon section has been added to the store that includes many triathlon specific bikes and accessories, as well as wetsuit sales and rentals. We also have a women’s specific section and a wide range of hip clothing and accessories.

Schlegel Bicycles specializes in the details of cycling and personalized service including the basics of proper clothing and nutrition, custom fitting of bicycles to optimize the performance for each individual cyclist, training classes and a superior service department.

Schlegel Bicycles has a mission to support the local cycling community and works with local city organizations to improve the future of cycling in Oklahoma City. You will see us at almost every major, and some very minor, cycling events in central Oklahoma, Tulsa and the surrounding areas.

We always love to hear from our customers and athletes. Please give us your feedback and let us know how we can improve your experience both in the store and out in the community.
